As a parent, you're always looking for fun and healthy ways to keep your kids and family active during the summer, but also throughout the year. And we'll be honest, it's hard to find activities that will get your children active and entertained at the same time.
If you live in Amarillo and the surrounding areas, the good news is there are plenty of healthy activities for children!
From camps, to baseball leagues, to beach volleyball, our community provides a variety of opportunities for kids to stay active. Here's a look at eight of them.
8 Kids Activities To Help Your Kids Get In Shape & Have Fun
Kids Incorporated has provided many sports opportunities for kids since it was first established in 1945. Its list of sports includes outdoor and indoor flag football, fall and spring outdoor soccer, volleyball, tackle football (for fourth, fifth and sixth graders), T-ball, coach pitch softball, track, and cheerleading. It even has an indoor soccer league for adults called Hereford sports. It also hosts West Texas Athletic Camps during the summer.
The three primary youth baseball leagues in Amarillo are the Amarillo Area Rotary Youth Baseball League, which is part of the United States Specialty Sports Association, West Texas Youth Baseball, and the Canyon Baseball Association which is available to kids ages 5-15 in nearby Canyon, Texas, and welcomes kids from Amarillo. High Plains Fast Pitch offers softball for girls.
Amarillo College Kids Camp
The Kids' College Department at Amarillo College has a wide variety of summer camps/classes for kids of all ages. Classes include martial arts, gymnastics, dance, cheerleading, fencing, and even Legos. The camps are open to youth ages 3-16.
Jet Sand Volleyball
Located at the Amarillo Netplex sports facility, Jet Sand Volleyball caters to youth and adult players, and is held in a premiere sand volleyball facility.
The Amarillo Area Tennis Association offers a summer junior program that is held Monday through Thursday at the Amarillo High School tennis courts. The program will be broken into three sessions: 10-under, beginners, and intermediate/advanced.
Golf Headquarters of Amarillo offers annual summer camps for kids.
Amarillo Rock Climbing House, an indoor climbing facility, offers climbing courses for people of all ages.
Amarillo Town Club
The Amarillo Town Club always offers fun, engaging workouts designed for kids. Our youth fitness program combines circuits of high-energy workouts with strength training exercises. Kids exercise for up to an hour, building strength, increasing indurance, losing weight and gaining self-confidence. Class are from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in G3 every Monday through Thursday at our Cornell location.
Our KidsCorner is always available for children from 12 months to 7 years of age. Child care is free to all ATC members.
